What will be the best choice in flooring for me in my new house
Hi, l am building a new house here in Ohio about 3300 SqFt. l have
open foyer with oak staircase, oak trim and casing throughout, oak interior
doors. My question is what kind of flooring should l put in: Marble
about $10000
Hardwood about $8000 Porcelain about $8000
/>Ceramic about $7000 Also,what kind of kitchen should l get. l have
oak throuthout, but l dont like oak cabinets. If Igo with maple or cherry
cabinets, it will only be another $800 to $1500. All suggestions will be helpful.
I would go with Oak hardwood flooring & maple kitchen cabinets.
This would be better for resale. Cherry cabinets are formal. You have a
pretty large home & I would also consider what the other homes in ur area
have. Don't over do it. Oak flooring is the number one choice. And, I
guess it all depends on the other features you are putting into ur
kitchen. Cherry cabinets are beautiful, but they are just a little dark &
lend to the formal side as I had mentioned. You certainly would want to have granite with cherry. With the size that you are building, I am assuming you are in an exclusive area. Just check to see what ur neighbors are putting in. Another option is to have tile in ur foyer, running into the kitchen & family room & then have oak in ur dining & formal living room with carpeting in ur bedrooms. Just make sure that the tiles are large in scale. Marble is difficult to maintain for ur main rooms. You could use it in ur master bath, but then again, it all depends on ur surrounding area. Don't overprice ur home.
We have a 3000 sq ft first floor & it is all ceramic tile. We
love it. My wife added area rugs here & there to soften the tile look but
it sure is easy to take care of.
We have painted cabinets but that is a personal preference. If you want
cabinets with a wood look & don't like oak, I'd consider cherry. You can
get it stained in light, medium or dark tones & it is really beautiful & rich looking. Don't skimp on the cabinets. If you have to, look for somewhere else to save the $800 to $1500.
